Philae Temple, which is considered one of the most beautiful Ptolemaic temples and is located on Agilkia Island. It is one of the most famous temples that UNESCO saved from drowning after the construction of the High Dam, which flooded many places with water after its construction.
Philae Temple was located before its rescue on Philae Island, which was drowned after the construction of the High Dam. The name Philae means (beloved) in ancient Greek. The temple was dedicated to the worship of the goddess Isis, the protective goddess, and inside the temple there are some buildings dedicated to the worship of the goddess Hathor, the goddess of music and finally.
One of the first kings who built a temple on an island in it was King Thutmose III, the great warrior who conquered and defeated the Nubians and expanded the southern borders of Egypt to their maximum extent.
After that, we will go to visit the High Dam, which was built by the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser to control the Nile floods that used to come annually and drown many agricultural lands.
The High Dam is considered one of the facilities of great benefit because of the control it achieved in the Nile waters, so that Egypt became an agricultural country with different types throughout the year, and it also protected Egypt from the dangers of flooding.
Before the end of our tour, we will head to the incomplete obelisk, which is located in an ancient quarry used by the Pharaohs to extract very hard flint stones to build giant and strong temples that are not affected by the factors of time.
There is the obelisk that was not completed due to some technical defects and the impossibility of its use, and it was intended for Queen Hatshepsut. This obelisk was supposed to be in the Karnak Temple, but it was left as it was, giving us a good idea and telling us that the Egyptian obelisks were cut from a single stone block.
